Economics Daily’s Director Xu Xiangmei Leads Delegation in Kai Motors Research on Open Economy,

On March 29, a delegation led by Xu Xiangmei, Director of the Theoretical Department of Economics Daily, visited Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, for a special research trip focusing on the region's open economy and the development of the "rooted plant" economic model. The delegation was accompanied by officials from the Taizhou Municipal Publicity Department, the Municipal Commerce Bureau, the Luqiao District Publicity Department, and the Lunan Subdistrict Office.
The research team visited Zhejiang Kai Motors to gain in-depth insights into its used car export operations. Established in 2003, Kai Motors has become a leading used car exporter in Zhejiang, with a diversified business system covering international automotive trade.
In recent years, leveraging advantages such as the Horgos land port, the company has established overseas warehouses, showrooms, and supply chain networks in more than 30 countries and regions, including Russia, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. In 2023, Kai Motors achieved export sales of $59.18 million. By 2024, its export volume surged by 272% year on-year, with total export value exceeding $240 million, securing a top position in Zhejiang’s used car export sector.
During the visit, Xu Xiangmei inquired in detail about the company’s innovative practices in global market expansion, policy support, and industrial chain collaboration. She praised
Kai Motors for advancing the “rooted plant” economy through its integrated domestic-international development model. She emphasized that private enterprises in Taizhou, with their flexible mechanisms and global vision, have successfully connected international supply and demand chains, setting an exemplary model for China’s open economy.
Li Ling, Deputy Director of the Taizhou Municipal Publicity Department, who accompanied the delegation, stated that Taizhou would continue to optimize its business environment, support enterprises in deepening their global presence, and further strengthen the "rooted plant" economy brand, contributing to the dual-circulation development strategy.
This research trip provided the Economics Daily with valuable insights into Taizhou's open economy and created a platform for enhancing the city's international influence. Moving forward, both sides will strengthen cooperation to better tell the story of China's high-quality development.
